Continuing on the hectic train that is NZ Fashion Week, we look at more of our highlights in this second instalment.
Ovna Ovich
Ovna’s first solo show at Fashion Week had the crowd sitting down one side, as the models walked barefoot over freshly splattered blue, orange and yellow paint, to the tune of two mystical metallic-dressed musicians. The collection, her ninth – titled ‘Tread Softly’, featured a good mix of bold and neutral colours, taking on a variety of styles – buttoned-back garments, impeccable ruffles, pinafore-style dresses and jumpsuits. The silk shoestring strap dress was a beauty and the robe style pieces are a winter must.
Katherine Victoria
Katherine’s debut at NZ Fashion Week featured lots of tassels, fur and velvet. Her ready to wear jackets and dresses are beautiful and really stood out on the runway. The textures were something special, the way they all formed together so nicely – I admired her black pleated sheer dress with flower sleeves before I even saw her new collection drop that day. The Wellington-based designer, who’s mantra is ‘wearability is key’ – certainly lives up to that, as her colour-block jacket with sequin skirt combo is fantastic. The vibrant colours, sequins and embroidery shone through her jacket, vests pants, dresses and shirt pieces.
Jason Lingard
Jason’s debut on the runway really spun the last official day into full swing – complete with an ‘experimental dance piece.’ The ten talented dancers involved showcased his new collection along the runway, intriguing the audience with their intuitive performance. The range was influenced by Japanese arts and crafts. His sixth collection, Chaos features an array of universal items that are made from natural fabrics.
Andrea Moore
Andrea’s fun prints and colourful pieces came out to play on the first afternoon of the week. The catwalk was soon taken over, Andrea style – complete with hanging lights that the NZ Ballet elegantly danced through, while showcasing what the new fit-wear range was really built to do! Fitness and wellbeing influencer Simone Anderson soon appeared darting through the bright lights alongside fellow ‘key influencers’ – Kirsten, Katie Parsons, Rachel Wilkins, Doms Kitchen and Melissa Chalmers. These inspiring ladies demonstrated again why this new athletic wear (in stores October 20th) is what you need in your wardrobe!
The multi-layered pieces from ‘The Pursuit’ collection including sunglasses and shoes were on display, alongside a funky stand-out ‘Elaborate Jungle’ range, all finished off with Kela Charms – beautiful Swarovski charms to give your hair the ultimate X Factor!
French 83
French83 has once again, produced a classy line of menswear. It really doesn’t matter if you are an avid tailored suit wearer, you would enjoy this new collection. The somewhat-simple looking styles took on prints and bold textures with ease. The men strutted down the catwalk rocking their fresh new looks paired with some New Balance sneakers (and they looked good, let me tell you!). In saying this, the brown camo number infused with a poppin’ blue definitely stole the show.
