The Kiwi Summer is officially in full swing with a heatwave in place and many weekends ahead to explore the many majestic coast lines and inner-city gems New Zealand has to offer.
This summer season has officially been declared it could be the hottest summer on record as temperatures reach peaks so remember to travel safe and slip, slop, slap and wrap!
Exploring beaches
New Zealand really has a beautiful coast line doesn’t it? If you’re based in Auckland central like me, you’ll have the same dilemma of what beach to visit when Mission Bay’s rocky shores just don’t cut it. I’ve been taking advantage of the good weather recently and have grabbed my pals and jumped in the car for a mini-roadtrip up the coast to visit Orewa Beach, Omaha Beach and Tawharanui – which is a hidden beauty in it’s own right. Cathedral Cove, Whangamata and Pauanui are yet to be ticked off my summer list…
Brunch spots
Holidays are a time where it’s forgivable to have a sleep in or two or three times so ‘breakfast’ time has traditionally passed which means one thing – Brunch! In my personal opinion, brunch is way better than breakfast anyway so do a bit of research on the ol’ world wide web – social media is great to find the best feed to fill your bellies for a day of adventuring ahead. Can confirm Major Sprout in Auckland’s CBD is a must-try!
Treat yourself
If you don’t have some sort of icy-treat during Summer, was it even real? Many of the holiday hot spots like beaches will have a cute ice-cream parlour attached to them to fulfil your treat craving. You may find yourself enjoying a real fruit ice-cream at a pick-your-own strawberries farm, having a classic soft serve sundae to cool you down in the extreme humidity or even a pit-stop in Pokeno to tackle the massive 12-scoop icecream…
Create memories
Regardless of how many beaches you visit or ice-creams you consume, none of it will really matter if you aren’t spending time with people you love. Organise a BBQ/picnic with your family for a sunny day, make a playlist for your pals to sing-a-long to on your road trip and smile as you walk by all of the other kiwis enjoying the sunshine and the view that only NZ has to offer. It’s easy, surround yourself with good people and the experiences you have will last as memories for a lifetime.
Have a great, safe and fun Summer and fantastic 2018 as it’s only just beginning!
