 Recipe Of The Week

Truffles are one of the easiest treats to make this December. So get your friends together to make (and devour) these sensational bites!

Ingredients:

28-30 Oreo cookies, or other chocolate cookies a similar size
8 oz. softened cream cheese
12 oz. dark chocolate chips
4-6 oz. white chocolate chips (optional)
2-3 tablespoons crushed peppermints or candy canes
assorted holiday sprinkles or whatever you find in your pantry

Directions:

1) First, crush the cookies. You can use a food processor to do this. Then mix in the softened cream cheese with the crushed cookies.

Press the batter into small balls and place on plates or a cutting board lined with parchment or wax paper. Pop these in the freezer for 15-20 minutes.

2) Melt the dark chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave. Pop the mix in the microwave for 30 seconds, and then stir. Place it back in the microwave on high for another 30 seconds, and so on until it is fully melted.

3) Use a fork to dip the chilled mix in the melted chocolate. Gently tap the fork on the side of the bowl with the truffle on the end to remove excess chocolate. Place back on the lined plate. Immediately cover with sprinkles or crushed peppermints.

4) Place these in mini baking cups. White chocolate can also be melted on top. The truffles should be stored in the refrigerator when not being served/eaten.

Book Club

You may have heard of John Green a bit recently as two of his books were adapted into blockbusters these past two years aka The Fault In Our Stars and Paper Towns. If you are planning to read a few books over the summer then I recommend Looking For Alaska being one of them. As always John Greens knows how to tear at the heartstrings whilst also capturing the amazing but also awkward teenage years. Not for the faint of heart, this book will stay with you long after you have finished it.

The blurb reads as follows:

tumblr_nxt4y1m2Ov1ub048ho1_500“Before. Miles “Pudge” Halter’s whole existence has been one big nonevent, and his obsession with famous last words has only made him crave the “Great Perhaps” (François Rabelais, poet) even more. He heads off to the sometimes crazy, possibly unstable, and anything-but-boring world of Culver Creek Boarding School, and his life becomes the opposite of safe. Because down the hall is Alaska Young. The gorgeous, clever, funny, sexy, self-destructive, screwed-up, and utterly fascinating Alaska Young, who is an event unto herself. She pulls Pudge into her world, launches him into the Great Perhaps, and steals his heart.

After. Nothing is ever the same.”

Quote Of The Week

Never bend your head. Always hold it high. Look the world straight in the eye.”

– Helen Keller

That’s it for this week’s Friday Favourites, I hope you have a great weekend!

xx
