MOISTURISER

Just because you have oily skin doesn’t mean you need to skip moisturiser. This will only dry out your skin making it produce more oil. Instead, try apple cider vinegar as a toner before applying any product. Use a matifying gel moisturizer on your T-zone and a cream moisturizer on the rest of your face.  This will help to fight shine while keeping your skin hydrated.

CHOOSING FOUNDATION

The skin on your face is not the same colour as the rest of your body due to breakouts and sun exposure. Therefore when testing new foundation shades don’t place them on your cheek. Swipe foundation testers below you jaw line and blend them in. Whichever shade seems to disappear into your skin is the one you should choose.

APPLYING FOUNDATION

For an airbrushed effect, use a sponge or brush to pat the foundation down. Applying your makeup in an upward motion can often give your skin a caked appearance.

CONCEALER

Always apply your foundation before concealer; if you apply it afterwards you will just end up removing it. Another tip, don’t use the same shade to cover acne or under eye circles. Your under-eye concealer should be a shade lighter than your skin tone; if you place this on your pimple it will only highlight it. To ensure any blemishes are covered place setting powder on overtop.

POWDER

Too much powder can make your makeup look blotchy and unnatural. Instead, use a translucent setting powder. Apply it after your makeup has set and watch as any shine disappears.

BLUSH

If you have oily skin avoid any shimmery products, as they will only make your skin appear shinier. Instead try a matte bronzer or blush.

Remember don’t apply your bronzer all over. Instead, apply the correct shade in the shape of a “3” over your forehead, cheekbones, and jaw line.

FILLING YOUR BROWS

When filling out your brows, don’t apply the same amount of powder throughout. Focus on the intensity of your arch and fade any product out at the ends. Choose an eyebrow brush or an old mascara wand to define your brows further.

If you follow all of these steps you will have a perfect makeup base. All that is left to do is your eyes!
